HELP accidently unmounted root!!
 

I was using autofs, and i accidently mounted my cdrom on root "/" . after restart I can't even login because it can't read init.d. the bootloader is lilo. is there any other way to login as root, so i fix this problem. all i need to do is edit my "/etc/auto.master" file to get things working right. Thanks.

I just thought of something. maybe I could edit the file from windows. Is there a program that will let me view and modify files on Ext3 from windows?

I'm in knoppix right now. When i try to edit the file that is located in the mounted debian drive, it says the file is read-only and won't write. I guess there is no way to change this, considering the whole filesystem is read-only. Any ideas before i reinstall?

No, no need to reinstall.

Knoppix defaults to read-only just to be safe. Right-click the partition icon on the desktop that contains the file you need to modify. There should be a "Mount read/write" or "Change read/write mode" or something like that. Tell it to mount the drive in write-capable mode, and you should be able to edit it normally.
