Thks 4 the rep.
Sorry i was not enough clear in describing the problem. I'm new to this forum. Infact i installed mandrake 10.1 on my laptop travel mate 2701 LM. The only thing not working is the internal modem ATI technologies Inc Ixp AC'97 modem. And there's also a dvd writer on it. Is there a way to make it work.
Thks

Personally I'd go with knoppix or kanotix for thier better hardware detection.

Internal modems are often reliant on Windows software (winmodems), so don't work easily with Linux. Do a google for "linmodems"
You may have to enable SCSI emulation for the DVD writer. What kernel version are you using?

The kernel verion:- 2.6.8.1- 12mdk. I think it's the latest version. Some of colleagues told me, tunning the kernel will improve the Notebook performance. Is it true? If it 's, How to do it?
How can i enable SCSI emulation? Is it something to do with the BIOS settings..
More infos:-
Dvd/cd-rom / slimtype dvdrw sosw-8525
Modem:- Agere Systems Ac'97 Modem
Is there a way to find the chipset of the internal modem?
Thks in adv.
