Having trouble with irrecord (lirc)

I have installed XBMC on my HTPC, I used the live cd for this.

But I have trouble with irrecord, I have a home made serial ir reciver. This reciver has worked fine in windows for a year now.

I try to run irrecord with theese options:

sudo irrecord -H default -d /dev/ttyS0 tstRem
I get this error message:
irrecord - application for recording IR-codes for usage with lirc

Copyright (C) 1998,1999 Christoph Bartelmus(

/usr/bin/irrecord: could not get hardware features
/usr/bin/irrecord: this device driver does not support the LIRC ioctl interface
/usr/bin/irrecord: major number of /dev/ttyS0 is 4
/usr/bin/irrecord: LIRC major number is 61
/usr/bin/irrecord: check if /dev/ttyS0 is a LIRC device
/usr/bin/irrecord: could not init hardware (lircd running ? --> close it, check permissions)
lircd is not running...

Any tips? If you need more information, please tell me how to get it and I'l get it.
