Having LILO problem after kernel Source install

Im using mandrake 10.0, i had it install the 2.4 kernel instead of the 2.6 because of compatibility issues. When i went to set up Fire GL for my radeon it said i had some problems with the symlinks pointing to source for the wrong kernel. For some reason the kernel source that was installed was the 2.6 source. So i DLed the 2.4 source RPM and installed it. Then when i compiled the kernel module for the ATI driver it worked, But when i went back to the /usr/src folder the symlink linux was missing, so i made one to the source directory. After this i rebooted, when i got to lilo, it didnt load the interface at all and i got an L with a repeating 99 error message. Oddly enough i can boot from my floppy no problem, goes right into lilo and boots flawlessly, any ideas?

Take a look at /etc/lilo.conf and make sure that it describes your kernels correctly. Then run:
lilo
to recreate the lilo bootloader on your MBR.

You could also take a look at lilo.conf on your boot floppy and see how it describes your kernel. Perhaps you use the kernel image description from your floppy lilo.conf to fix up the image description on /etc/lilo.conf.

Here is a lilo HOWTO:

"hmm Oddly, theres no lilo.conf on the boot floppy.."

Yes, you are right. I checked my boot floppy and there is no lilo.conf on the boot floppy. When I build a boot floppy I have to create a lilo.conf for the boot floppy but I guess that the lilo command doesn't actually copy lilo.conf to the floppy.

Your lilo.con file should be in /etc ex. /etc/lilo.conf
