Has anybody tried this?

Has anybody tried something like this:
Code:
grep -Iir f*ck /usr/src/linux-2.6.5-1.358/*
to see how many times this word is repeated in the kernel source ?

You know, using cscope works a lot better. (Allows you to see it in context.)

Also, there is searchable source on the web (sorry... link is not something I recall at the moment) and you can search to your heart's content right there.

Yeah... coders have dirty mouths.

EDIT:

http://lxr.linux.no/search

That is just one of many. This one allows you to select which kernel version you want to search through.

I think most anyone that has looked at the kernel source code has run something like that. It was a good little reminder though.

I used to simply cd to the source tree and run
grep -R "\<searchword" .
