hard drive showing as full but isn't

Ok df -h shows that all 60GB of the hard drive are being used. In fact, it shows that 63GB of 60GB are being used :/

du -h only shows that 7.1GB are actually being used. The system mounts a remote file system using autofs. Very little data is actually stored on the local scsi disk.

Any thoughts on how I could troubleshoot this issue? Does this sound like a service/daemon issue, or a hardware failure?

I can ssh in and navigate the directories without any issues. I can even create large tar files, and copy big logs. If it was a hardware failure i feel like I would have issues working in the directories. If the disk was really full I don't think it would let me create a 700MB tar file.

It just doesn't make any sense.

Have you tried performing an fsck? It might be the filesystem metadata is corrupt in some manner.
