for /dev/hda
Timing buffered disk reads: 30 MB in 3.21 seconds = 9.34 MB/sec

It's a Quantum Fireball ST 6.4 GB Ultra DMA mode 2 drive.

Got the following for /dev/hdb.
Timing buffered disk reads: 12 MB in 3.31 seconds = 3.63 MB/sec

It's a Western Digital WDC32500H. It's not running in UltraDMA at all since it's blacklisted by default. I figure there must be a good reason for it being blacklisted, like problems with data loss when enabling UDMA with this particular drive in Linux.

for /dev/hdc I get:
Timing buffered disk reads: 10 MB in 3.31 seconds = 3.03 MB/sec

It's a Western Digital AC31200F ATA.

Code:

I believe this is WAY low for a pata wd 80gb disk

Code:

I have made another topic here if anyone is interested in helping me!

My new Seagate 400GB SATAII drive with NCQ breaks 70mb/sec. Here's the screenshot that proves it: http://4crito.com/screenshots/fc6_64bit.jpg

Model is Barracuda 7200.10 SATA - ST3400620AS to be exact: http://www.seagate.com/cda/products/...81,758,00.html

IBM x460 with 6 x SAS drives in RAID5

Good morning everyone,

I did some tests earlier today on our system - the buffered read went over 100MB/s [around 107] - I did some a few moments ago and took a screenshot - highest I got is ~101.

Configuration is:

IBM x460 [2 x Xeon 3.00Ghz 8MB Cache]
6 x SAS HDDs 74GB configured as RAID5 with ServeRAID 8i [Adaptec]

Let me know if you need more info.. thanks!

Cheers,
Alex

P.S. - can't attached the screenshot or insert the link so.. here we go:

bestia:~ # hdparm -tT /dev/sda1

/dev/sda1:
Timing cached reads: 2824 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1412.59 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 258 MB in 2.66 seconds = 97.10 MB/sec
bestia:~ # hdparm -tT /dev/sda1

/dev/sda1:
Timing cached reads: 2864 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1433.12 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 258 MB in 2.72 seconds = 94.98 MB/sec
bestia:~ # hdparm -tT /dev/sda1

/dev/sda1:
Timing cached reads: 2848 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1425.25 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 258 MB in 2.55 seconds = 101.29 MB/sec

My Barracuda 120Gb 8mb Cache 7200RPM HDD, tested at
182mb in 3.03secs = 60.02MB Per sec.
Not bad for an IDE HDD.

hdparm -t /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
Timing buffered disk reads: 70 MB in 3.06 seconds = 22.88 MB/sec

For ATA133 Maxtor.
edit:/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1018 MB in 2.00 seconds = 508.53 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 66 MB in 3.04 seconds = 21.68 MB/sec
Timing O_DIRECT disk reads: 184 MB in 3.01 seconds = 61.04 MB/sec

Uhhhhhh, I think Houston has a problem. You need to check and make sure the right drivers are installed for your chipset. That would be the first thing I would do. My old IDE is faster than that.

Code:
root@smoker / # hdparm -t /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffered disk reads: 170 MB in 3.02 seconds = 56.25 MB/sec
root@smoker / #
That is with KDE and such running. May be better if I were in single user mode.

About the time to revive this thread

If this is a race, I'm way behind (so what? Speed Kills!)
Code:
/dev/hda:
 Timing buffered disk reads: 84 MB in 3.02 seconds = 27.80 MB/sec

What may I ask is that on? It's not the worst I have seen but it is pretty slow.

Maxtor 6E040L0 ATA, 38 GiB. Fast enough for me.
