Hard drive performance

for /dev/hda
Timing buffered disk reads: 30 MB in 3.21 seconds = 9.34 MB/sec

It's a Quantum Fireball ST 6.4 GB Ultra DMA mode 2 drive.

Got the following for /dev/hdb.
Timing buffered disk reads: 12 MB in 3.31 seconds = 3.63 MB/sec

It's a Western Digital WDC32500H. It's not running in UltraDMA at all since it's blacklisted by default. I figure there must be a good reason for it being blacklisted, like problems with data loss when enabling UDMA with this particular drive in Linux.

for /dev/hdc I get:
Timing buffered disk reads: 10 MB in 3.31 seconds = 3.03 MB/sec

It's a Western Digital AC31200F ATA.

Both combined as one drive with JBOD

My new Seagate 400GB SATAII drive with NCQ breaks 70mb/sec.

Good morning everyone,

I did some tests earlier today on our system - the buffered read went over 100MB/s [around 107] - I did some a few moments ago and took a screenshot - highest I got is ~101.

Configuration is:

IBM x460 [2 x Xeon 3.00Ghz 8MB Cache]
6 x SAS HDDs 74GB configured as RAID5 with ServeRAID 8i [Adaptec]

My Barracuda 120Gb 8mb Cache 7200RPM HDD, tested at
182mb in 3.03secs = 60.02MB Per sec.
Not bad for an IDE HDD.

Uhhhhhh, I think Houston has a problem. You need to check and make sure the right drivers are installed for your chipset. That would be the first thing I would do. My old IDE is faster than that.

What may I ask is that on? It's not the worst I have seen but it is pretty slow.
