Hard Drive Partitioning for Large Hard Drives

Hey all,

I just got a new 500GB hard drive for Christmas and am wondering about partitioning it. I currently have my main drive as a 300GB partitioned into / (~50GB) and /home (~250GB), so this drive will strictly be for storage (IPTV, Podcasts, etc.). What I can't decide is partitioning. One big partition? A bunch of little (20-40GB) partitions and then use LVM?

I'm probably going to use JFS on this system, which would allow me to expand the filesystem under LVM.

All thoughts are welcome.

Thanks,
David

Uh...

I would do something to split the content up.

maybe 5 partitions with one being music, one being podcasts, one being 'personal' (workspaces, scratchpad stuff...) and et cetera.

I work better if things are strictly laid out when i sit down though and I like having central places for things.

This HDD is not too big for JFS to handle as a single partition. Using just directories to keep your stuff sorted seems more flexible to me than partitioning and then possibly running out of space on some of them. Just my two cents.
