Hard disk

Hi

I'm trying to set up my hdb1 and usb zip250 to be globally r/w. I have spent today fiddling and getting pretty frustrated! Usb zip just sort of worked (2.4.7 kernel. Scanner live too!), but it got very confusing as I also had a parallel zip connected up. Both drives wanted to be sda, and they took it in turns being mountable/writeable. Have removed the parallel drive.

As things stand, I can mount the drive as a specific user, fstab entry says

/dev/hdb1 /mnt/windisc user,noauto 0 0

and similar for the zip (sda4)

What I want to do is persuade these to be globally shared so I can dump files on them via samba as well as locally. Reading man mount has melted what's left of my brain, and I'm off to the pubto cool it down!

Does anyone have a global read/writeable hard disk like this, if so please tell me what the fstab line should be.

Big weekend lined up, going to see U2 in Manchester, so won't be back here until Sunday.

Regards

Jim

ok, so i'm a newbie, but my zip works from everywhere and i did it by putting "users" with an "s" instead of "user" in the fstab file. give is a shot and see if it does the same for you.

have one for me at the pub. my brain melted long ago. ;-)
