Gvim font issue in Linux

Hi,
I am using Vim Version 6.1.265 in Linux machine
Red Hat Linux release 8.0 (Psyche) Kernel 2.4.18-14 on an i686.
When I open any file in gvim, I am able to see the file fully in the text body of the editor, where as the complete menubar in the editor[gui] appears corrupt. I am unable to see the text based Menubar at the header of the GUI, but the icon based menubar at the bottom of the Text based Menubar appears ok.
Assuming this could be "font setting" related issue, I tried to change the
guifont setting in ".gvimrc" file in my login directory. I increased the below setting upto 12, and reopened gvim but there is no change.

set guifont=Courier_New:h9
highlight Normal guibg=grey100

I tried changing the same in ".vimrc" file also, that too didn't make the menubar visible. Please give me your ideas to fix this.

Thanks and Reagrds,
Seetharaman
