GUI question?
if a program is built for the KDE desktop, will it run under gnome?
reason i am asking is a lot of the great programs i am seeing posted around here for linux GUI based are built for KDE. example is quanta from the poll on this forum talking about good web designe software. there have been many other programs that i have found on the web via google that are built to run in the Kdesktop, i am taking that to be KDE. can i run them in Gnome without any headache, or do i have to run them in KDE and learn a new desktop? i am running RH9 |
If you have KDE installed or at least it's libraries, you can run a KDE program under GNOME or any window manger for that matter.

ok, guess im not installing KDE atm.
i was going to get the most current vs of KDE 3.x, but all the RPMs for that are for FC1/2 not for RH9. can i use the FC rpm and will that work, or am i just fubar with getting an rpm install of KDE? if so i am sure i will be back asking for help to install from source. |
Foir Red Hat 9 you need apt-rpm
http://freshrpms.net/apt/ Read on the web site about the redhat 9 mirrors to put in the config file. This will give you redhat 9 rpm's and will resolve dependencies. |
ahh more stuff to learn *grins*
thanks for the linky and the help. |
