Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display - I think X Is broken
Rebooted my Debian laptop:-
Reboot, back into scott Opened up xterm Typed: Perl Wellenreiter.pl ****Wellenreiter.pl is a wireless sniffer with a nice gui****** A dialogue box came up, saying this must be run as root. Changed into root vi su - And then got the error. Fri Jul 4 20:12:47 2003 Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: Anyway, did abit of investigating If I loginto root, I can run the program, it just seems i cannot run any programs under root while logged in as user scott. I have tried both unset DISPLAY & Export DISPLAY=:0 and still wont work - I dont get any erros aswell when I run them. Now, I have also tried xhost +localhost If I log in as root and try that command in xterm - I get bad hostname, but it will take 127.0.0.1 If I then log in as scott and in xterm, I then do a Su -, type 'xhost +localhost I get: unable to open display "" Any ideas? Just bumping this to the top. I have similar problems and would like to know where you should check the XServer perms.
