I just installed Mandrake 9 and find that my grub doesn't not support splashimage..

so on rpmfind.net, i found a patched source by RedHat...which appearantly does...but when I rpmbuild it...it gave me an error of archietecture (i586) not match...so I told it to ignore archiecture by forcing the target to be i386...by there is still a build error...so I decided to give up...

then I found another patch on the net and patch the grub 0.92 code I just downloaded from gnu...configure...make...make install...but still not working...

Can someone tell me how to get a splashimage working with an unpatched grub???

I'm not sure if you've found an answer to this or not. I've just been working on getting splashimage working with my Slack 9. I never get it working with LFS or Slack...YET.

I am getting closer, though. I think just patching the sorce, then the usual ./configure, make && make install just isn't good enough. If you have an existing installation of Grub, you really need to remove the /boot/grub directory, then reinstall it with grub-install. I think the splashimage is in one of the stage files. If you don't recreate it, it won't be there.

I haven't tested this out just yet. I'm looking for images to use. I'm lazy and have almost 0 artistic skill. I could use the LFS one, but I want something that is about something other than a distro.

When I find out if this works or not, I'll try to come back and post my results.

That link is what got my splashimage to work. I downloaded the Debian Grub CVS and recompiled.

And I was right, once you make install, you have to blow out your /boot/grub directory and reinstall it with grub-install.

Now, I just need to find some good images to use. No, I didn't like the ones at that link. They're distro specific and I don't want one that is like that. I want something different.

Off I go continuing my search.

You can make your own. Make sure that it's 640X480 (uhh I think) and no more than 16 colors. Save it as an xpm file and then tar it up. Make sure it's in you grub directory and you have your very own grub boot up screen.
