Grub error 25! This is not on install but months after install

I have a grub error 25! I could not boot the system at all and while on the other computer after about 10 min i looked over here and the computer was booted to UBUNTU. I'm afraid to reboot in case it happens again.

This is a dual boot machine running a 100 gig hd with ubuntu on it and a 320 gig hd with windows xp on it. I read some articles on this but dont' understand how to fix it and for some reason I cannot find the Ubuntu install disk anymore. I could create one if i could boot to windows. The computer is a Dell Dimension .

Can anyone explain how to fix this without rebooting (again it's booted into Ubuntu) I guess I can chance a reboot but I need some info on what to do if it does not reboot correctly.

Thanks,
Nate

well I guess in ubuntu to you could reinstall the grub so it rewrites the mbr you may have a little corruption going on. and while your at it google super grub down load it burn it and use the manual linux or windows boot. that is a fail safe plan. been where you are at many time I keep a copy of super grub around. But that windows I got rid of in 1998. but I keep super grub around for my girl friend computer she hates windows but keeps it around for other stuff. and super grub boot windows. main reason ubuntu took so long to boot it was doing fsck check
25 : "Unrecognized command"

This error is returned if an unrecognized command is entered into the command-line or in a boot sequence section of a config file and that entry is selected.

25 : Disk read error
This error is returned if there is a disk read error when trying to probe or read data from a particular disk.

All you have to do is go into your CMOS setting in your bios. Make sure all of your hard drives are set to manual (or user) and to LBA mode. Ohh, and make sure your the third boot device, after floppy and cd-rom is your primary HD on your master line. It could have been changed one way or the other.
