grub does not recognize harddisk

hi people,

i'm having a very strange problem. i whant to boot windows from an slave disk (/dev/hdb)
grub is installed on MBR from my linux disk /dev/hda

now, when i try to use autocompletion in grub comandline, it does not show me (hd1,*), just fd0 and hd0,1-4

so, i can't boot from there.

i've tryied with map and so on, but if it doesn't even recognize the hdd i'm lost.

i try to rename /boot/grub/device.map without any results.

if i boot linux, and then go to grub commandline and use there autocompletion, i can see hd0 and hd1 as id device.map

is there a bios problem?

thanks

Try not using autocomplete. Just type (hd1, px) where px is your partition number.

It could be a BIOS-problem.
Run CMOS setup, check for the second drive. If not there (normally under "Standard setup") try automatic detection. If BIOS can't see the disk, either update BIOS or boot from first disk.

Because when booting, only disks recognised by BIOS can be accessed by bootloader, when Linux is up and running BIOS isn't needed.

hi pingu.

i allready loocked at that, but in bios both HDD are recognize. my dvd drive and cdrw are recognized as well. i have a one year old mainboard, it shouldn't have any problems with HDD's.

why can't i boot from the second HDD???
