Grub - Delay before showing boot menu

Hi!

I'm new to Linux and I have installed Fedora Core 5. Now I wonder why the system takes so long to boot. The GRUB bootloader shows the message

GRUB loading stage 2

Then it takes 4-5 seconds until the boot menu with the available kernels is displayed. Is this delay normal or is it because of a misconfigured GRUB?

Thanks in advance,
Ingo

I think its perfectly normal to have a small lag from when the grub screen shows up to the point you see the kernel messages.

Think you may make Grub go marginally quicker, say to knock off 1 to 2 seconds, by disable the graphic display. Just add a "#" in front of the line started with "splashimage=".

Grub is text mode should be as fast as you can get from a boot loader.

Yep, GRUB splashimages make it somewhat slower.
