growisofs : video dvds won't play in stand-alone player

Hi all -

I've been burning some DVDs with growisofs. The first one I burned was a pre-masterd ISO that burned just fine and will play in my stand-alone player (Denon DVD player). Since then I've been trying to master my own disks to play in my DVD player, but none will be recognized. All of my disks will play in my Mac and my PC in their software DVD players.

The command I am using is:

growisofs -dvd-video -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd /folderThatContainsTheDVD

The folder has the correct stuff in it, and like I say, it will play in any software DVD player and work correctly with menu support and all, but my DVD player will not play it. I know my DVD can play DVD-Rs though because it plays the one that I burned from a pre-mastered ISO.

I have tried burning with and without the -R -J flags for the filesystems, and nothing changes.

What command should I be using for this?

I see examples on the net where people are using mkisofs before growisofs, but if I understand this, that shouldn't make any difference because growisofs uses mkisofs behind the scenes anyway. Also, if I try to use mkisofs I always get a error stating that the output file is too large, even if I have 10 gigs free on an ext3 file system.

How is everyone else buring dvds that can be played in a stand alone DVD player with growisofs?

Thanks

Jason
