Group File Permissions

I've recently been setting up a small linux workgroup server using slackware 10.2 and it's been working fine apart from group permissions. I've only been using Linux for the last 3 weeks so my knowledge is pretty basic but expanding rapidly every day

I have various shares witch access controlled via group membership, I therefore want to allow group members write access to all files on the share.

What I'm finding is when the users are creating new documents they are being given 744 permissions. I'd like them to have 770 permissions.

I can correct this after the fact with chmod but I'd just like the files created to be writeable by anyone in the group, after spending the last few days reading I'm still stumped, do I try umask=007 in my fstab, I'm worried that I'll break the drive.

I'm guessing the answer will be simple, any help would be appreciated.

If you put 'sticky' on the directory containing the files, then all the permissions will be the same as the directory that they are in (you can still change them manually, though)
