Question Gray Windows with a Red X

when I run startx the only thing I see is gray windows with a red x, I'm not able to read anything. All the letters are tiny. I'm running linux 9 on a Dell Power-Edge.

Thank you!

sounds like you dont have X configured properly... and which distro do you mean by Linux 9 .. there are several distros in version 9 -- RH9, Mandrake 9, Slackware 9 ...

try running xf86config and go through and reconfigure it for your graphics card.

i am only assuming that since you are having to run startx manually that you are using Slackware or Gentoo, as you should not have to do that with RH or Mandrake.
