Graceful shutdown.. howto?
I want my box to be able to shut down gracefully when I hit the power button and not totally die. Something like windws.
What i mean is that when i hit hte power button on my computer, it should intitiate the shutdwn procedure in linux.. i think it would be like running system('shutdown') when a power button is pressed. But how do i intercept the power button press?

don't know what distro you are using and how old it is

suse 9.1 does this out of the box - you can configure the buttons in yast

other distros may need some tweaks to acpi config files (man acpid)

I'm not sure how to do it so the shutdown procedure is run when the power button is pressed. You can shut down with 'shutdown -h now'

You have to enable acpi in you're kernel, or initiate the appropriate modules.

I am using RH9.. i tried man acpid but there was no man page available for it.. any other ideas?
What steps do i need to take to eneable acpi in my kernal? is there a link taht talks about it? What other modules i may need ot initiate?
