Ubuntu also suffers from a major case of not invented here where Upstart replacements are concerned.

Ubuntu goes systemd as well.

Sure, it's all a big conspiracy and the upstream kernel people aren't involved at all.
Shuttleworth's mail is cheap political politeness, nothing more, also I sincerely doubt that he actually has much to do with these types of technical decisions.

But frankly I do not care as I am currently migrating to Gentoo and my long-term plans involve ditching Linux altogether in favour of one of the BSDs.

It will be a bit more work, and I would definitely miss apt, but enough is enough, clearly the bulk of the Linux community doesn't have the brains and the balls to call Potthead and his pack of cultists on their bullshit.

Gentoo fully supports systemd and accepts "systemd-only" dependencies as well.

PS: as for the BSD's ... you'll be unpleasantly surprised about the next FreeBSD announcements ...

Systemd works fine on Arch and Fedora. It's too bad no one has ANY faith in the Debian devs to pull it off.

Yeah, which are not default, as much as anything actually is in a rolling release distro.

Hint, Gentoo, unlike some other douchebags, gives you a choice

Link or GTFO, although knowing you the above comment was just more idiotic posturing.

Also how much is Potthead/Window$Hat paying you to spread the propaganda?

My exit strategy if Slackware breaks one day:

Server: BSD (obvious choice)
Client: OS X and Android

Seriously?

I think the "bulk" of linux community probably sees it a little differently than you do. People who are as displeased as you claim to be, would probably fork/maintain the sysvinit stack themselves and use it - or, move on. I do not see the point in calling other people names.

There is plenty of choice - as you have indicated yourself in your first post. Move on - or, of course, waste time and energy in complaining that people are changing what you think is the perfect implementation of feature x,y,z.

The choice, as always, is yours.

vl23, you've been a member here long enough to know this kind of language and behavior is not acceptable here at LQ. Please refrain from it moving forward.

Good point, but I doubt you can make this work with the actual attitude of the systemd maintainer. Understanding is a two-way thing.

So your contention is that all discussions should devolve to the attitude of the party perceived to be acting the worst?

A battle is truly lost only when the other party is completely dead, Shutteworth is either tryng to be political about it, or for whatever reason he just wants to follow the heard along with debian.
No Thanks.
As to the Allarby link, well I did try systemd, I did read through some of the Opendesktop documentation, I did watch a number of videos and read a bunch of E-mails from Pottering, and guess what, I do not like it and I will not stand for this bullshit.

The day I will run that thing voluntarily on my systems again is the day Pottering's fanboys take sysvinit, openrc, Upstart, and every single other init system that is not systemd, including any bad homebrew, I might manage to cook up, from my cold dead hands, figuratively speaking of course

This is your absolute last warning about the language. The next transgression will result in an immediate temporary ban.
