Good Linux mag for a NOOB ?

Hello,
I am new to Linux and have decided to start off with Suse 9.1 Pro.

Now I would like to subscribe to a monthly magazine for Linux that would be similar to PC Magazine or PC World...good articles, reviews, gentle to NOOBs and not for sys admins.

I would prefer a USA published magazine but willing to consider outside.

Thanks for any and all guidance,
snjbrian

Linux Format. Its UK, but it owns. Try it out. Every mag comes with three CD's or a DVD, usually incuding at least one distrobution, and a whole load of cool programs. Just go down to a bookstore and check it out. Its got lots of newbie articles and tutorials, aswell as an answers section, and when you become a not-so-noob, its got suff for you there too. =P

Cool link...thanks for posting it.
I did check it out before though.
There were no reviews for the 2 magazines I can find at a local book store....darn! lol

There seem to be about 3 that are locally available and what I am looking for...

Linux World
Linux Journal
Linux Magazine

I cannot find any others by Google search.

I will spend some time this weekend and review them and pick one to subscribe to.

Thanks....

noob magazines

I usually just visit the local Books-A-Million and buy everything they have in the way of linux magazines..not exactly the cheap way to go, but it sure keeps me busy reading till the next month's issue's come out....not that I understand everything I read, but some of it's sinking in....and some of the CD's that come with a couple of magazines are useful...

You can actually get Linux Format by subscription here in the US cheaper than buying it on the newsstand or in book stores. You can subscribe online at Linux Format

Hi GLAS and DOUBLEJOON,

Thanks for the info.

I did check out Linux Format....and there Linux 2 book was really interesting. I should have bought a copy.

I have to admit and agree with DOUBLEJOON, Linux Format did seem almost like a "Maxim" magazine for Linux...sleek ads, sexy pictures and lots of fluff.

On the other hand, I was just glancing through it before. I will give it careful consideration this weekend and pay closer attention.

I have broadband so I am not concerned about the DVD's really. It just adds to the cost for me. At this point, I need to stay with one distro and learn it before I go experimenting. :D
