good linux books for beginner

Currently "programmer to programmer: Beginning linx programming", and "a book on linux man page".

Any other suggestions? hoping to gain some knownlegdge on
/etc /proc directory, iptables, and embedded system.

Osborne-Mcgraw-Hill pub;Practical C, S. Oualline,pub O`Reilly,Linux Programming (A Beginners Guide) R. Petersen, pub Osborne-Mcgraw-Hill; last but not least try: section 4.6 subsections 4.6.1general,4.6.2compilers,4.6.3languages,4.6.4libraries,4.6.5interfaces/api/protocols,4.6.6security,4.6.7tools,4.6.8version control,4.6.9dbms/databases,4.6.10miscellaneous. please do expand each section and subsection for detailed information.
