Gnome Terminal/Tail/ mouse scroll

I am using GNOME 1.4.0.1, when i tail a file and use the scroll button to try and move up and down it does not work and prints the following text:

^[[5~ or ^[[6~

Can I make this functionality work?

the tail command is not supposed to scroll by design

you might use the scrollback buffer of your gnome terminal
