gnome-terminal is missing one pixel row and its an important row

If I run gnome-terminal it works great except when the commands get to the bottom of the window.
New command scroll the window correctly but the very bottom line of pixels is not visible.
All the text is shown correctly the 'g' 'j' and other characters display all their pixels but the bottom of the cursor block and any underlining of text is missing.
I have no idea how to set a 'padding' to ensure the content in the terminal is always visible.

The bottom part of the 'g' 'j' characters are directly touching the border of the window.

does resizing the window help?
