Gnome terminal emulation

I am using KPPP for modem dial in to a client UNIX box. Problem is I am getting a series of escape codes when in the shell and then when any application screen is displayed with graphics, the picture absolutely goes crazy.

Also, when I have logged in using Terminal to a UNIX machine with ssh, the arrow keys do not respond.

Any suggestions for these issues? I am on Red Hat 8.0.

Gnome terminal problems

I don't need someone to bury this post with a stupid answer followed by self serving spam. I seriously need to know what I can do to get the arrow keys working in Gnome and to avaoid escape sequences when using a dial up connection!
