GNOME or Ubuntu Visual Effects?
 

Ubuntu with GNOME Desktop Environment and openSuSE with KDE are the only Linuxes i've used but i loved these Visual Effects in Ubuntu and i'm wondering if these visual effects are only in Ubuntu or they belong to GNOME interface.

Would these effects be in my openSuSE if i install it with GNOME? Or these effects are only in Ubuntu?

*I'm a newbie on linux.. :(

The gnome window manager has effects built into it. If it's on gnome in ubuntu, it should be available in gnome on suse. However, each distro may have different ones turned on by default. Also, check compiz-fusion, that works on gnome and kde as long as you have video drivers set up properly.

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) it's compiz-fusion that QueenZ means here (the "enable desktop effects" thing in the desktop outlooks configuration utility). By default Ubuntu only enables few of the effects that way, but the rest can be turned on and off and configured if one installs the compiz-fusion configuration utility (ccsm). Compiz-fusion isn't tied to Ubuntu nor Gnome, it can be used pretty much where ever you like -- but how it works/plays together with the desktop environment or other parts you have chosen is then another story. Ubuntu has just integrated it's use nicely to the package, so you just need to click and it's in use; on other distributions one might have to install the packages manually etc.

no no.. i was talking about the effects that you can find going to..

Right-click desktop > Change Desktop background > Visual Effects (tab) > [Normal] or [Extra]

That comes with ubuntu when you install it..

Well, hat is compiz. Compiz has a million options so one distro's compiz may look completely different from another one's but they are the same thing.
