I used to always use KDE. But it got big and slow so I switched to gnome. It tends to be a little bit faster. I actually prefer Blackbox and IceWM now because they are faster.
I have to say KDE. Every time I try to Gnome the thing crashes on me
no matter what version I am using.
KDE seems to be solid and stable for me.
I may try the others soo though.
GNOME, I gave kde a try last month didnt like it...I always hear so much talk about it and there are so many add-ons so tried it again today, right away knew it wasnt for me. Takes about 11 hours to compile on this pc so was just a waste both times. GNOME is just so much simpler and KDE has so much bloat and a menu filled with 100 things that i would probably never use. Looking in GNOME start menu it has just a few needed things. Plus i think it looks nicer. I used fluxbox for the first 3-4 months i used linux and then tried gnome 2 and loved it. Cant wait for 2.4.
I like KDE and blackbox. KDE is nice looking and still very stable in my experience. Blackbox looks like a blackbox of course, but is much faster than KDE.
I'm running an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 and the bloat doesn't bother my processor or myself any.

I, on the other hand, don't understand how anyone could use GNOME. It is buggy (nautilus) and ugly. KDE is rock solid (for me) and I find it very fast.
However, I tend to use WindowMaker most of the time. No real performance increase - except on startup, but this machine is on 24/7 - I guess I am just so used to it.

If you have used GNOME on Redhat 9.0, you would like it.
