gnome libbonob problem

when i try to start gnome i get this error:

stderr is not a tty -where are you?
gome-session: relocation error: /usr/lib/libbonobo-activation.so.4: undefined symbol: ORBit- skel_class_register

(that's basically it, i just jotted it down real quick) I can however start xfce and window manager, but i can't run a terminal, or some other programs. How can i fix this, as gnome is my favorite desktop. (please keep it simple, i'm still pretty new)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
