i am on suse 10.1, and using xgl/compiz. it works great, but i have all kind of problems with everything when i disable it and use X 6.9 instead of 7 (so i cant disable it)....
but that isnt what i wanted to ask about:
has anyone had problems (in firefox) with the right click menu not working all the time.
usually when it conks out, i need to click around in gnome and then it works for a time....usually goes out when clicking with something loading in ff
Possibly. I don't remember if it was exactly with firefox, but I have had all kinds of problems (like menus not showing up or not showing up correctly) with XGL. It isn't "ready" software yet, so you'll just have to live with it..
yes, I had the same thing on suse. Since this is beta, always try to get the latest version. I'm updating compiz almost daily. Every day something gets fixed and some new problems occur.
i dont know, i updated compiz and xgl and it messed up my x server. everything loaded so SLOW.... and instead of that nice fade that windows and menus do, it was some silly z thing.
so im using the versions that shipped with 10.1, and switched to konqueror
does anyone know what enables direct rendering, because my fglrx drivers are installed correctly, but i am not using direct rendering(using indirect for xgl). how would you kill xgl and xorg and open a x session that uses direct rendering.(so i could do anything like ut2004 or an other application that needs direct rendering)
actually, that dosent work....maybe i dont know how to kill X and xgl....but when i do startx -- :1 it takes balls long time to start and shit freezes and xgl still started....
and if i just disable xgl, my right mouse button dosent work, and my mouse map is messed up
hmm, not sure
search in yast or smart or whatever package manager your using for xgame or preferably xgame-gtk2 and install it, it's a small program for running games in a seperate x server
yeah i know, but what actually tells linux (or X) to use one or the other (direct/indirect) because disabling xgl still leaves indirect rendering on.....
i am not really adamant about playing games..... i am mainly worried about stuff like blender or other 3d that needs direct rendering
i understand that xgl is trying to implement direct rendering, but that is a LONG term goal
