gnome applet crashes, deleted

My system locked up and I couldn't get past the screensaver. I rebooted and was presented with a dialog box saying weatherreport and soundmixer applets had crashed and asking me if I wanted to delete them. Unaware of what exactly this meant, I decided not to delete them. Then, I looked in the list of available applets and both the mixer and weather applets were nowhere to be found. I tried to add an applet to the panel and the same dialog box popped up again asking me if I wanted to delete the two malfunctioning applets. Therefore, I decided to delete them, seeing as it looked as if they were "corrupting" the other applets. Weather and mixer are still not in the list of applets.

Surely selecting "Delete" didn't remove the applet itself... or did it?
