Question ghost or drive copy for linux

I am looking for a way to replace my win98 bootdisk and ghost5. I want to be able to boot with my tom's linux floppy and then image one hard drive onto another. Anyone know how to do this with linux?

Look at the dd command ie

dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdc

That should copy all of the hd on the ist ide channel to the hd on the second channel. Both hd's would need to be of the same size.
dd is a straight block by block copy used the wrong way it will overwrite your boot hd.

You can also use the cpio command to accomplish that task.

Ok, I'm doing this to a friend's computer so I want to make sure I get this right the first time. He has a 10 gig NTFS partition on hda1 that I want to copy to hdc1. hdc is new and unformatted. The drives are different sizes. Can I use fdisk to create a partition on hdc that is the same size as hda1 and then do? :

dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dev/hdc1

That should work as far as I know. Since you are copying to a new hd if the worst came to the worst you will not distroy any useful data.
