Getting text console in tty7

How can I "free" tty7 from being used by X and just have it as a seventh text console?
In other words, I'd like to use tty7 (and, in case, tty8 and tty9...) as text consoles, while having X server start in tty10 or 11 or whatever I choose.

Thanks for your help

Look at your /etc/inittab file.
You will see entrys for tty1 - 6
Create similar entrys for tty 7 - 11 (assuming you want F12 to be X)
then
either stop X, run "init q", and restart X
or
just reboot.
