Getting Started and I allready have problems!! HELP!
Hi, I have just instaled Debian 3.0 with Kernel 2.2.x and GNome and my problem is that when I reboot after all the instalation complete, it doesn`t ask me with what OS I want to start, it starts auto in windows XP. I made all the steps followind the official site's instructions. I have a friend here that knows Linux and he said to me that the problem was in the LILO archive. But I saw some other LiLo scripsts that had the same configuration as me and it doesn't work...
please help!!! |
Well when your booting up, at any given time do you see a
boot: If not then most likely lilo was not installed to the MBR. Did you create a boot disk during the install, most likely that is how your going to need to boot into Linux and reconfgure/install lilo as your boot loader. |

I didn't create the floppy boot disk, but I got to booteable cd's, une is the Instalation from the net, and the other is the image of the currente version of debian.. the one that is 54-something MBs. Should I make the booteable floppy? When I reboot, I press "Shitf" and it stays in VRIFYING DMI POOL DATA ....... BOOT FORM ATAPI CD-ROM : MBR 1FA: and that's it... thanks again. :newbie: |
Do you have 1 Hard drive or 2? I see the problem often as lilo installs on the MBR of hard drive #2. The PC uses the MBR of hard drive #1.
If you have 2 Hard drives, try going into the Bios and setting Hard drive #2 as first boot device. |
and If I press "a", it shows me:
MBR 1234F : After either of these cases, I press "enter" and windows starts, in no moment I see a message where I can select wich OS I want to start with. |
At that MBR 1FA: Can you press the tab button and does it display a list of some sort.. or try typing Linux if you can type at that prompt. but it could also very well be the two hard drives like cexshun mentioned.

I have 1 drive 40GB. 10GB fur WindowsXP, 26GB personal and 4 GB linux (installed)

Nothing happend when I press tab or When I try to type anything
Thanx 4 your pascience |
