Gentoo, help someone!

I downloaded the 1.4rc2 prelease of gentoo, and I know a little here and there about linux I have been using it for 2 years. But I poped in the gentoo disc into my old 166mhz computer, 8 gig hd, 64mb ram, pentium 1, and I am having some trouble installing it, I think I might give up on it and just choose to put on redhat 7.3, what do you think... any tips?

Well with Gentoo on that machine you will be compiling stuff forever and a day. probably best to go with a precompiled distro.

Like what distro, I tried slackware I got a segment fault, I tried redhat 8 it aborts abnormally and ejects cd and reboots computer in the middle of install, mandrake is too new for that computer. What else is there to use?

Try debian. One sure thing about debian is that it is all compiled for a i386 and the install isn't too resource intensive.
