GENTOO and its wacky permissions (audio mainly)

Hello. I've installed Gentoo (the latest right now -- not sure the version -- kernel "2.6.12-gentoo-r10").

My main problem is with audio. It works with root, but doesn't work with my user. I used the Gentoo handbook for ALSA and it didn't help. I added my user to audio, that didn't help. I searched the forums and found what appeared to be the answer: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...oo+audio+user, but I dont have the file they mentioned.

I've tried going chmod a+rwx /dev/dsp* (which worked on Slackware and Debian) but that didn't work.

Any other suggestions?

If your using ALSA then the /dev/audio* is what you need to set the permissions on.
