This link describes the problem with the obsolete bios after I experimented with numerous live distros:

Not having virtualization enabled should not prevent an OS from booting. If yiu do not intend to run any virtual software it should not matter and with the many PCs I own it has just been matter of entering the BIOS and enabling virtualization.

The OS is just reporting the warning and does not disable the setting.
Even though you see the warning does the computer still boot up?
Have you tried accessing the BIOS to see there exists a VT-x setting?
