General Linux Questions For Test

I need to make a test for some people we're hiring - and a couple have said they have Linux knowledge, so I want to compile 40 questions (Ranging in difficulty) on the subject.

Anyone have any questions (Multiple choice ones would be the best) that I can use? We don't use Linux, but have some clients that do, so expanding to Linux would be a plus.

The last guy we interviewed said he knew Novell, didn't realize I did too. Needless to say, after a quick 5 minute grilling, he said he doesn't know much Novell.

Any questions in multiple choice format would be great, along with listing the difficulty. Oh - and please provide the answer too.

check out linux professional institute ... they provide certification and list some questions on their website ( I think).

Any question regarding SysV startup scripts would be good... maybe some bash programming questions. Ability to configure X?

such as 'simple way to configure X?'
"XFree86 -configure"

how about is he able to compile software from source? what about editing Makefiles? If a piece of software says that it has unresolved symbols but you KNOW that you installed the required library into /usr/local/mynewlib then what do you need to do to get that program to see the library?
("edit /etc/ adding the /usr/local/mynewlib dir and rerun ldconfig")

Also would he be able to configure the network on a linux box? can he configure /etc/inittab...

does he know what type of files should be in /usr/bin as compared to /usr/local/bin or /opt?

that sort of thing.
