general bash, konsole, terminal, etc Idea for a forum

Perhaps a forum for shell commands already exists, then ignore this.
For example, we usually use tar, at first, to unpack tar files from the internet to use. (That was at least my first use) However, tar can be used to back stuff up on your computer. How would a user discover and start to do this for him/her self? Rather than read a dry manual it would be much more fun to see a Q&A about the command. No doubt documentation exists on various commands (like the dd thread) and might be more useful if collected in a single forum? I only post this because it would be convenient to go to a thread on a command I used the man(ual) to look at and could just have a place to read a more interesting and applied description (rather than do a search which can be time inefficient?).

There are a few good compilations of documentation on various of the major subjects. There isn't really any organized collection, other than the man pages. You've already touched on the dd thread in these forums, then there is the famous Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide. Generally, the more expanded and tutorial documentation is published in various ways and locations. A Google search that includes the words 'example', 'tutorial', or 'FAQ' frequently turns up highly relevant content. Most of the documentation you describe evolved organically over some time, frequently with multiple contributors. The now less used Usenet groups were once a strong organizing force, and each one tended to have it's FAQ, many of which live on to this day, although there is a lot of outdated content from those origins, as well.
