Question Geforce4 and wine

I am currently running JAMD on a AMD XP 2000 with 512 DDR and a Geforce 4 mx 440. The dostro picked up my card and gave it a driver at setup but when I play a game like say tux racer its slow as hell. all graphical things lag. Whats causing this? Also I want to run a few windows apps and games. I want to run like counter-strike and photoshop etc.... Should I use wine or winex? And dont you have to pay for winex?

Thanks in advance

You'll have to get the NVidia drivers for your card before you can have 3D acceleration, check out nvidia.com for them. In regards to Wine, Wine is for regular applications, while WineX is for games and other things that use DirectX. You don't have to pay for WineX directly, but if you want to get the prepackaged rpms of WineX, you have to pay $5/month. You can get cvs WineX for free, however, the cvs version doesn't include Point2Play or any of the code to work with copy protected cds.

Download the source code for WINE and compile it with opengl. Don't forget to install your source code or get it from kernel.org and copy it to /usr/src/linux. If you don't know your kernel version type cat /proc/version at the console.

For Photoshop, use GIMP instead. I suggest you don't use WINE for Photoshop. WINE might burp on your image formats while trying to save.

Go to

for more information about your processor(s).
