gdb assembly dump "i386-slackware-linux"

when i run gdb it says it has been configured for i386-slackware-linux.

when i do assembly dumps they always come out different from articles that i have been reading. is there a way i can configure gdb to assembly dump for anything other than i386? ive searched google and all i got back was compiling options for gdb. i didnt want to start from scratch. thanks in advance. =]
