Games

I am trying to learn Linux & had a question about games in Redhat 7.3. I tried playing a game called Cromium & it went very slow. I read up on the site & downloaded/installed Nvidia RPM's. I also installed the GL rpm from Nvidia's site. After installing, X would not start. I fixed that problem & every game runs but now Cromium will not start at all. The Cromium config will start up but if you try running the game.......nothing! I don't really want to play the game but I want to learn how to fix issues like this. Can anyone help??

Those RPMs are drivers for Nvidia hardware. Do you have an Nvidia graphics card? TuxRacer won't work without a GeForce graphics card. Maelstrom should work though and perhaps Armagetron (do a google search for it) will work.

Have you tried starting the game from the command line?

This can give useful diagnostic info......

I found games in /usr/games/chromium but which files actually executes the game? It must be a different directory. Please advise....

Here is the error that I get

I just cd'd over to /usr/games & typed chromium at the prompt. This is what I got for an error.

randomizing.
SDL Initialized.
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: entension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Couldn't set GL mode. Couldn't find matchine GLX visual

I got a similar error when I first installed the nVidia driver & tried starting X. (I also installed the GL rpm from nVidia at the same time) I thought that I was past the problem once I got X working again........
