hi,

I have some erros on Gaim. I've chose the MSN protocol and try to connect. The progress shows:

2. synching with server
3. requesting to send password
4. password sent

and then error comes up saying that <my email address> was unable to sign on: Authentication failed

why? Any ideas?

thnx

One thing I forgot the first time I set up Gaim was that you have to use your email address not just your screen name for the user ID.

Just a thought before you try to reinstall

Sometimes it's the simple things that will get ya.

msn works perfectly fine for me everytime, we can't really do much else than say you're just plain doing it wrong.

Im pretty sure the problem your having with gaim is the same type of one I am having with kit. It seems AOL doenst like the use of third party software accessing their instant messenger servers. They only want people to use the AOL Instant Messanger downloadable on their site being used. My Kit in KDE wont connect either. I found this out in Windows when I was using the popular instant messenger "Trillian," although they patched their software so that it fools aol's servers into thinking the client computer is running aim.

hi nutshell,

Also, Is your password longer than 15 characters? If so, truncate it down to 15 and try logging in again.
