full screen display problem

I have SuSE 8.2 on one drive and Debian sarge on another. Each comes with a game called lbreakout2. This game needs to be played in full screen mode. Debian does it without a hitch (which is why the installation is still there). When I try it in SuSE, I get an error message that seems to originate in the monitor - 'error......fV 28.7k'. X has to be restarted to get back. Xconfig appears to be the same in each. Can some one tell me what's going wrong in SuSE and how I might be able to fix it?
