FTP access to another directory

HI,

I have a couple of user accounts on my machine and I am looking for a way so that when I FTP into the machine and goto another users directory that I have permission to upload files to it.

I'm running vsftpd and I am able to see whatever folder I want on the machine so chroot doesnt seem to be the issue unless I don't quite understand how chroot works.

I don't want to bind their directory me either. I just want permission to upload.

I've added myself to their group spot:

user2/x/1003:myusername

But that doesn't seem to be it. How do I give myself permission to add files to another users directory via FTP?

Thanks

**eDIT:

Figured it out needed to change the folde rto 775 so that the group had read/write to it

What are the permissions on the other users directory? They'll need to be write group if you are in the same group or worst case write other.

like: chmod 777 /home/someuser

Of course when you do that you open yourself up to secuity risks.

for upload folders are usually used sticky bits I guess, look at man chmod

you can also create one shared directory and link from users directories to it
