fstab options

fstab:
/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults,noatime 0 1
/dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults,noatime,nosuid,nodev 0 2

"defaults - Use default options: rw, suid, dev, exec, auto, nouser, and async."

mount
/dev/hda1 on / type ext3 (rw,noatime)
/dev/hda6 on /home type ext3 (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=666)
none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
usbfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)

do "nosuid" and "nodev" options override "defaults"??

Yes. I've never figured out why mount displays the options it chooses to... it displays nosuid, but not nouser? Quite odd to me... I would display all ENABLED options (i.e., no "no" options). So defaults would display as it does in the man page.

Seems to me like ro/rw is always displayed, whereas all other options are given if and only if they differ from the default. (But I may be wrong, of course )

That's probably true. Just still seems a bit inconsistent to me.
