fsck failed for at least one filesystem (not /)...

Today, I rebooted my SuSE linux computer and I faced with this problem. I have no idea how it happened.

Basically, when booting up the system, I get the following messages:

-------------------------------
.
.
.
Scratch (/dev/system/Scratch): UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
(i.e., without -a or -p options)
fsck.ext3 /dev/system/Scratch failed (status 0X4). Run manually! failed
.
.
.
Wait 3 seconds for USB initialisation . . .

Please repair manually and reboot.
The root file system is is already mounted read-write.

Attention: Only CONTROL-D will reboot the system in this mode. Shutdown or
reboot will not work.

on usb-0000:00:02.0-4.1.1

-------------------------------

I can log in as root but do not know what to do next. I commented this line in fstab:

/dev/system/Sctarch /export/sctrach ext3 defaults 1 2

And then I rebooted it (CTRL-D).

It seemd to be fine as it went by the end of the way in the text mode and the graphical login/password page appeared. However, after entering the login and password (not root), I get this message:

Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation.

So, I think the change that I did in ftsab fixed part of the problem, or it just by-passed checking it without fixing actually anything.

Do you have any idea what has caused this and any suggestions on how to fix it?

Would be a big help.

Thanks.

You could run fsck on all partitions by using the shutdown command. I believe it is shutdown -F -r now. That forces fsck on the reboot.
