frozen screen - Suse ppc

Hi all,
I'm using Suse 7.0 on a B&W G3 mac,
Recently I upgraded from 2.2.16 kernel to 2.4.2-11, I installed the k-deflt rpm on the linux side .. put the 2.4.2-11.gz file in the /boot directory and use the copy option in lilo to copy the vmlinux file over to the hfs partition so I can boot it with bootx.. I also upgraded ppp and modutils.

now I can boot into my new kernel but I only get about 5 minutes in kde before it freezes completely forcing me to hard reboot the machine.

can anyone give me any tips on where to look for the problem?

many thanks
