Suddenly getting this error when publishing from frontpage 2003
"The server could not complete your request. Contact your internet service provider or web server administrator to make sure that the server has frontpage extensions or sharepoint services installed."
403 Forbidden
Forbidden You don't have permission to access /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
???
I uninstalled the extentions, cleaned and reinstalled but same thing. I updated cPanel to 9.9.9C-13 also.
Are frontpage extensions installed for the server? What are the permissions of the directory in question? And why are you using frontpage, it truly does suck and is just a hassle to get working correctly with *nix servers instead of the native Windows servers it was developed for.
You didn't accidentally change to a different authentication method, did you? I personally find that the only way I can get frontpage to upload to my slackware box correctly is via FTP, I believe all of the other methods are for Windows boxes only. My guess would be that trickykid is right, sounds like a permissions problem. Either the permissions aren't allowing you to publish to the directory it says, or Frontpage is speaking a language that your linux box doesn't understand.
Once again as stated in my first post, it used to work always and in my second post I made it clear its been working for over a year now. Nothing was changed on my end and someone else was able to duplicate it as well. It is server side. it has always worked before for everyone on the server until recently.
Has anything changed server side? I'm assuming that the server is a box that you own, and not one at your ISP, right? If it's your box, does it double as a desktop? Any recent software upgrades/reinstalls? Do you have another server you chould try to upload too and see if you get the same error?
Just curious as to what things you've tried and haven't tried. It is quite common for one to rack their brain about a problem and have it be something extremely simple that they just overlooked.
If nothing has changed on your end and it just stopped working, but you also mentioned that you uninstalled the extensions, reinstalled, etc? Have you confirmed they are working? What are the permissions since your getting a 403 error, which should give you a clue on what the problem is? I could have sworn I already asked this. And have you asked for support from the data center, is it possible they made any changes since this sounds as if this isn't totally your own server and you rent it, etc?
And another question, can you upload files thru FTP or other means instead of Frontpage to the directory in question?
I am the only one who admins the server and I have full root access. It is self managed anyway, but I even purchased managed services from my DC and even they have trouble tracking this down (and they are *very* good at admin side too).
Its not about my permissions even though it states that, because I have not changed permissions at all, and other clients on the server have the same trouble. I can upload via FTP yes.

So its most likely a frontpage issue and or an extensions issue. That narrows it down most likely.
You keep asking for help but yet your not providing any good information for anyone here to help you with your problem.
My thoughts would be that its an extension issue on the server. If you have multiple people that use this and use Frontpage to upload their websites to this server and they all stopped working at a given time, I doubt its even each Frontpage client uploading and connecting to this server.
My money is that its the extensions that is the sole problem. Personally I've never installed or dealt with using Frontpage extensions for Apache or any *nix server and probably wouldn't ever at that matter. From what I've read, its buggy, unsupported and has had a bad security track record in the past.
I don't know what scripts your running in which you mentioned before but they come off to me as preinstalled scripts by the data center your renting this server from. Did you actually install mod_frontpage on this server? Do you have full access to the server or are you only root in a chrooted type environment or do they have you on a virtual type server, etc?
From what you described in the "steps taken" that you mentioned, doesn't seem to me that you have actual "full" access to this server, only the portion your renting, etc.
If you do have true full access, install mod_frontpage the correct way and don't use their existing scripts to do it.
