From zero to systat and back to zer0

Hi folks,

right now I'm at stillstand with my knowledge of linux. Using systat as a lowprofile monitoring tool I'm stuck with it's interpretation. Especially when it comes to the disk I/O. How can i tell that my server is doing fine? What kind of numbers should ring the alarm.
Also reading up on the faq on systat homepage I'm still puzzled.

Can any one give me some guidance? How do you tell where a server has a bottleneck? Are there any maths to be done?

I'm feeling quite lost here also I'm sticking my nose into monitoring system for more than a year now. Played with zabbix and nagios. But also those did not realy tell me if my system is doing well, beside CPU and Memory consumption.

So long
Zhjim
